Directed film therapy workshop for Ukrainans who resides in Estonia/Ukrainian and Estonian text below/
The "Directed Film Therapy" workshop, organized by the NGO FUFF in collaboration with our partners from Ukraine, took place in Uusvada, Setomaa, from October 21-26. The workshop involved 13 Ukrainian externally displaced people, including mothers and children, who collaborated to create two inspiring short fiction films. We are absolutely thrilled that this meaningful project came to fruition, providing a platform for creativity and expression amidst their challenging circumstances. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our dedicated partners from Ukraine, Charitas Mariupol and Don Calabria NGOs, for their invaluable support.
The program was not only vibrant and intensive but also enriching. Participants had the unique opportunity to engage with the rich local Seto culture, including visits to a traditional smoke sauna that offered warmth and comfort, a local museum that showcased the area’s history, and the enchanting experience of hearing the Seto Leelo, a beautiful vocal tradition.
Additionally, we were fortunate to collaborate with talented film professionals from Estonia, who generously shared their expertise and guided the participants through the filmmaking process. Their mentorship was instrumental in enhancing the participants' skills and boosting their confidence, making the creative journey even more rewarding and ultimately guiding the participants towards creating two beautiful short films.
Throughout the project, participants received dedicated mental health support from a professional educator and a psychologist affiliated with our partner organizations from Ukraine. These specialists facilitated group discussions and activities and provided targeted individual support to families who needed it most. The presence of the mental health professionals created a safe and supportive environment where participants could express themselves and experience the transformative power of filmmaking.
In addition, a team of supporting professionals from Ukraine ensured smooth communication and organization across all activities.
We are grateful for the support received from Zusa, Insha Osvitha, and the European Union, in the framework of the Culture Helps program, which made this transformative project possible. This initiative not only empowered participants through film creation but also nurtured resilience, creativity, and connection, leaving lasting memories for all involved.
