EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC WORKSHOP
In this workshop the participants will try to listen to and explore their acoustic environment. What kinds of sounds are there to find? How does the silence sound? Can any abandoned objects around us be used as instruments? How can we respond to the call of the natural soundscape using our own voices and bodies as instruments? These are the main questions we will focus on, and try to solve in action during the workshop. Earlier experience in music is not necessary. People of all ages can participate in the workshop with their personal presence. During the workshop we will find a common way to play simple rhythms, encourage ourselves to use our voices and natural presence powerfully. In the end, these elements will be combined to create an orchestra or a "big happening".
The workshop is led by Otto Eskelinen, a musician/composer. He graduated from Sibelius Academy folk music department and has been working as a professional musician for more than 15 years around Finnish music scene, making music for theatre, circus and other performing art forms. Since 2013 he has led an ethnofuturistic ensemble "The Mystic Revelation Of Teppo Repo". The group has published three studio albums and made music to the documentary film "The Nature Of My Heart" 2016 (Jaakko Ruuska). THE REGISTRATION IS NOT OBLIGATORY, ALTHOUGH IF YOU NEED CATERING AT THE TIME OF THE FESTIVAL, PLEASE LET US KNOW.

We invite up to 8 NON-Finno-Ugric directors from all over the world, to create their short films during the festival. The directors can invite max. 2 crew members they would like to work on their project with.
Each film crew or director will get a Finno-Ugric actor with whom they will have to collaborate during their projects. The premiere of the films will be after the festivals closing ceremony.
Besides Experimental you can participate in:
In the workshop participants will make an experimental self-portrait. First, we will create our masks and explore how they represent our different personalities. This technique comes from psychodrama, a method that applies theater techniques to gain an insight about ourselves and our environment. We will apply it to give a speacial topic for everyone. This topic will be the base for the self-portraits, that participants will make helping each other. A device that records image and sound is necessary (it can be a phone).
The workshop is lead by Peter Klausz (HU). Peter completed his film studies in Budapest, Hungary. During these years he got involved in social projects, and started to apply films and filmmaking in different contexts. In 2014 he moved to Madrid to do a Master's in psychodrama. He makes mainly experimental films, and he also explores the ways of collective creation and how films can be integrated into psychodrama for social intervention.
Liis Nimik will be your editing tutor during the workshop, giving you feedback on your cuts on various stages. She is an acknowledged Estonian film editor with 4 feature films and numerous documentaries in her filmography. She is especially interested in the unknown, unexplainable and unexpected in filmmaking, so she explores those dark areas in her films together with her international Master's students (BFM Kinoeyes MA program).
